Kentucky Mule

Kentucky_MuleAfter making a serious dent in my bank account eating in San Francisco and Napa, I’ve been trying to save money by making meals at home. My post-vacation plan includes weekend cocktails too, so I decided to start mixing my own drinks again this past weekend. I love bourbon, but I wanted to make a more summery drink, so I took a cue from one of the fabulous cocktails I had at Beretta restaurant in San Francisco: a Kentucky Mule.

The Kentucky Mule is basically a southern version of the Moscow Mule, which is made with vodka, ginger beer, and lime. Swap the vodka for bourbon, and you’ve got a Kentucky Mule!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 ounces bourbon
  • 100 millilitres ginger beer
  • ½ lime
  • ice

I picked up some ginger beer at the grocery store and 1 fresh lime. Place a few ice-cubes in your glass (the drink is best enjoyed cold). Then pour in one shot of bourbon (I used Maker’s Mark), and fill the rest of the glass with ginger beer. Squeeze the juice from half a lime over top, and give everything a quick stir. It’s that simple! (And trust me, that’s a good thing since they’re pretty easy to throw back!)
