Winter has arrived in Vancouver. It’s been cold here, especially at night. To warm up, I like to drink alcohol (and warm drinks)! So the other night, I decided to try and make myself a hot toddy. I had a really excellent hot toddy made by a friend about a month ago, and my goal was to try and replicate that with ingredients I had at home.
Ingredients
- 1.5 ounces (1 shot) Spicebox whisky
- 1 tablespoon dark honey
- 1 wedge of lemon
- 1 cup boiling water
Basically, a hot toddy is honey-lemon tea with a good ol’ shot of whisky. You can use any type of whisky you like: scotch, rye, bourbon… I had some vanilla-infused Spicebox whisky and thought that it would give it a bit of a holiday feel.
Boil the water, and in your favourite mug, add the honey and lemon juice as if you were making honey-lemon tea. Pour in the boiling water and add the shot of whisky. Give everything a quick stir, and taste it to see if it’s how you like it. You may want to add more sweet or sour (or, let’s face it, more alcohol).
This is a lovely alcoholic beverage to warm up to on stormy nights. I have a feeling I’m going to be making it a lot this winter.
